Designing an Open Floor Plan
Open floor plans have been popular for a long time, but most people don’t know what to do with one which leads to some really awkward spaces.
Here are the basics to laying out an open floor plan!!!

· Paint Color: An open floor plan should be one color throughout since they are all visually connected. Pick one versatile color throughout and commit to it!!
· Sectioning: By far the easiest way to Section areas out it with rugs. They add contrast to your area and frame out different “Sections”. Use Large art on one wall to draw the eye to the area. Use lighting to further mark different areas. Pendant lights or unique chandeliers for the Dining area, Sconces of Lamps for Living areas etc…
· Layout: Make sure to give thought to your space. Having furniture floating around in the middle of nowhere is awkward and makes the space clumsy. Think about clearly defined walkways and the space between each area.
· Grounding: Similar to sectioning, grounding uses a focal point to tie each individual section together and make the space it’s own. For example, Rugs for each area, Unique coffee table in the living space, statement plants, chandeliers etc.….
In the end space needs to reflect your personality and what you love! Remember that you live there, not your family and friends. Choose pieces that speak to you as an individual. Don’t be afraid to be bold or different. Worrying about making a mistake or doubting if what you envision is won’t work is mind numbing, instead take a chance because
What if it does?!

Follow these 4 steps in your open plan.
1) Choose Paint wisely and use one color in an open plan.
2) Strong sectioning as this makes each area it’s own.
3) Smart spacing so there are clear walkways and nothing is isolated
4) Grounding adds a center point to each area.
